Things you should know
This Cartier Santos Octagon reference 2965 is presented in excellent condition. The case remains sharp with minimal scratching, only lightly polished, and retains crisp bevels along the edges. The original brushed finish on the caseback is intact, with legible engravings albeit slightly faded due to polishing.
The dial and hands are also in excellent condition. There is no oxidation present on any of the hands. A noteworthy feature is the deep burgundy color of the dial, a rarity for this reference. While there are some hairlines on the dial, due to their delicacy these tent to become spider dials, they are often imperceptible. The gilt writing on the dial is vivid gold and sharply rendered in a serif font adding to its appeal.
Although the bracelet is original and well-preserved with minimal stretch, there is a disparity in serial numbers on two links, suggesting partial replacement over its 50-year lifespan. Additionally, the watch comes with two extra links.
Recently, the watch underwent a comprehensive overhaul by an Authorized Cartier watchmaker. The Cartier signature is evident on the case, dial, bracelet and movement. The crystal remains virtually free of scratches, further enhancing the allure of this timepiece.
